Southern Pacific engine #1673 is used in the screen version of the famous Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Oklahoma.  The railroad portion of the movie is filmed at Elgin, Arizona, one of the normal stops along #1673’s route. The engine is fitted with a special diamond smokestack and painted turn of the century colors.  Also appearing in the film is the Elgin station of the now defunct New Mexico and Arizona Railroad.  It is the last real action the engine would see in its career.
