March 19 & 20, 1994A Time for Celebration
Just in time for the 114th anniversary of the first Southern Pacific train into Tucson, the first phase of restoration for old engine #1673 is completed.  A ceremony is held in Himmel Park.  Tucson City Councilmember Molly McKasson is on hand to recognize the members of the task force.  The complete cosmetic restoration costs nearly $40,000, all of which is given to the task force through grants and private donations.  It is a moment of reflection and a promise that the engine would never be allowed to deteriorate to its previous state.
